Mateo Cordier is an associate professor of ecological economics at Université de Versailles-Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (Université Paris-Saclay), where he has taught since 2012 after completing his PhD in 2011. His research focuses on developing ecological-economic models that simulate environmental management scenarios, with expertise in addressing complex environmental challenges.

One of Mateo’s key areas of research is the shared environmental responsibility principle, which seeks to distribute environmental duties across different sectors and stakeholders. He is also advancing the use of input-output-econometric models, which he couples with system dynamics models, to study ecological issues such as marine habitats and plastic pollution in the ocean. These dynamic models help to assess both economic and environmental impacts, providing insights into how better management strategies can be developed.

Over the course of his career, Mateo has contributed significantly to the fields of ecological economics and environmental policy. His recent publications include studies on plastic pollution, exploring how factors like innovation, education, and governance influence sustainable outcomes. He has co-authored several papers, such as "How much innovation is needed to protect the ocean from plastic contamination?", "Plastic pollution and economic growth: the influence of corruption and lack of education", and "Reducing plastic production: Economic loss or environmental gain?".

Mateo Cordier collaborates on international research projects focused on climate change, particularly in Arctic regions. His work connects climate science with the lived experiences of Arctic communities, highlighting the socio-economic challenges these populations face due to environmental changes. Through his role at the CEARC research group, he contributes to studies that bridge the gap between scientific research and the local realities of these communities, emphasizing the human dimension of climate change impacts.

Mateo’s recent work includes international collaborations aimed at understanding and reducing plastic waste. Notable projects involve scenario analyses of global plastic pollution and policy recommendations for reducing plastic production, examining the socio-economic dimensions of plastic pollution and its global implications.

With a deep commitment to interdisciplinary research and ecological sustainability, Mateo continues to contribute to the understanding and management of environmental issues through both his teaching and research.
